One of the best things about being at RENEW is participating in the various special events over the course of the year.

The July 31st SHIP Safety Picnic at the Sheridan Service Center was no exception. SHIP, Safety Officer Roger Wood reminds us, is an acronym for the "Safety Health Incentive Program".

The food was awesome -- Head grillmaster Bill McDonald and apprentice Greg Filbert turned out masterfully grilled hot dogs & hamburgers on the outdoor BBQ. Then, in the training room, those dogs & burgers joined a medley of other picnic treats including potato salad, chips and baked beans to say nothing of the sweeter-than-sugar watermelon.

Kudos to the servers inside too -- including Jean Toller, Jordan Gorm, Sandi Peterson, Linda George and Karin Spann.

The grub was great but the picnic's highlight had to be the dozens of jackets, vests and radios handed out to an equal number of deserving recipients. Those gifts were RENEW's way of rewarding each of those persons for an amazing one-thousand hours of accident-free work.

As Safety Officer Roger Wood so aptly tells us: "Avoiding accidents is absolutely vital to our clients, staff and the well being of the RENEW organization."

So might we tip our caps to all those who earned their accident-free status and to all those who helped make the 5th annual Safety Picnic the best ever. Congratulations; we're proud of you all!
