Olive White Businesswoman, Researcher Olive White is now deceased. We will fondly remember Olive for her years of serving on both the RENEW Board and RENEW Foundation Board and the contributions she made. Olive's parents homesteaded in Campbell County and met at a box-supper social event and were married a year later. At four years old, Olive's father past away. After two years of Olive's mother struggling to maintain two homesteads and teach school, it was decided they would move “back East.” Olive grew up in Illinois; attend DePauw University and the University of Illinois, graduating with a degree in biochemistry. Her professional career consisted of research at the Mayo Clinic, Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital. In 1950, Olive left Harvard to marry Ellison White, a physician she met at the Mayo Clinic. Following his career meant the family, eventually including ten children, lived in Wisconsin, Texas, and Mississippi. Because of difficulties managing a Wyoming ranch from these distances, they eventually moved to Gillette. After Olive's husband’s death, she opened and managed, YOUR BOOK STORE on Gillette Avenue. During this time, Olive joined the Board of Directors of RENEW and, after many years with the League of Women Voters decided to try partisan politics. Olive served as County Chair of the Campbell County Democratic Party and as a member of the Wyoming Central Committee. She is an active member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, currently serving on the Vestry and as a Stephen Leader for a program devoted to lay pastoral care. |
